Contemplating: Jewelry

Inspired by this article about a necklace created from linked charm bracelets, I made over my childhood charm bracelet (by attaching it to a rubber crocheted chain that I can stretch over my head). And I was surprised to see that I had no charm from New York City. I visited in 1977, just missing the blackout by hours, which impressed me. That is, I think I liked the idea that disaster—or anything, really—might happen. “I’m scared, but I’m willing,” as John Berryman said in his Paris Review interview. “My idea is this: The artist is extremely lucky who is presented with the worst possible ordeal which will not actually kill him. At that point, he’s in business.”
