West Broadway and Duane Street

Kampachi (with jalapeno) and horse mackerel at the new branch of Sushi of Gari. People are always talking about the inventive sushi here, but these were the flashiest things on our platter. (If you don’t order the tasting menu, the regular menu seems rather small and straightforward. But then we asked the server for things not listed and got fluke with quail egg and truffle oil, for example.) Everything was good but could have been better if someone had thought to install dimmers on those lights above the dining tables (upside: lovely pictures).

In other dining news, the Grade Pending app, which provides health department ratings (Sushi of Gari hasn't been rated yet) and links to reviews and all sorts of other restaurant information is now on nycgo.com’s list of favorite NYC apps. (I mention this not only because my husband created it but because I use this app all the time: it’s indispensable for someone who eats in New York City.)
