22nd Street and Sixth Avenue

The New York Cake and Baking supply company has some new items in stock (new to me), such as the laser-cut cupcake wrappers and the tiny vials of glittering powder to sprinkle over something (but what?). Instead of the metallic teal disco dust, however, I bought regular old peppermint extract (and coconut) in anticipation of the holidays—maybe I’ll make these chocolate sandwich cookies with a dash of peppermint (or coconut) in the filling.

  1. Oooh, I forgot about this place, one of my all time favorite specialty stores for baking where I found edible Harry Potter photos, a mold for making the skirt to a Barbie Doll cake, ready made sugar flowers... and the edible metallic powder sprinkle is for sprinkling a bit of glitter onto any kind of icing, or mixing it into your fondant, or rolling your truffles over, etc... hmm, I should visit again soon.

  2. Thanks for the info about the powder. I was thinking that if I sprinkled it over icing, it would just melt into it and create a mess. Guess I'll just have to give it a go and see what happens. And I like the truffle idea: chocolate truffles rolled in gold dust. I will definitely have to experiment with that for the holidays.

  3. Unless you are using hot icing, the glitter won't melt into it. In fact, the glitter doesn't really seem to melt all that readily since I've had to scrub it off of my kids' faces... Chocolate truffles with gold dust sounds fabulous!
